About Urban Warriors
Urban Warriors is a nonprofit organization based in Little Village, Chicago, dedicated to empowering youth through free, accessible programs in sports, wellness, and multimedia. Our programs include Project 21 (Travel Baseball), Guerreras F.C. (all-girls soccer), Yoga Pa'Todos, Correcaminos (Running Club), Village Moves (Chess), and a robust multimedia program.
Position Overview
The Director of Operations plays a key leadership role in ensuring that Urban Warriors functions with efficiency, integrity, and alignment to our mission. This role oversees daily operations, supports program implementation, manages organizational budgets, and drives operational strategies that promote long-term sustainability and impact.
This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about youth development, community empowerment, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Oversee day-to-day operations of all programs, including sports, wellness, workforce, and media initiatives.
- Develop and implement systems that ensure effective delivery and scalability of programs.
- Monitor program performance and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Staff Leadership
- Supervise and support program managers, coaches, and support staff in alignment with the Urban Warrior Methodology.
- Lead staff development, including training, mentorship, onboarding, and evaluations.
- Promote a collaborative, values-driven organizational culture.
Financial Oversight
- Manage program budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
- Collaborate with the Development Team to support grant applications and fundraising strategies.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial tracking and compliance with funder requirements.
Strategic Planning & Partnerships
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to implement operational strategies that support organizational growth.
- Cultivate partnerships with schools, local government, funders, and community organizations.
- Support the development of the new multiplex sports and cultural arts facility.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including mandated reporting and staff/volunteer background checks.
- Develop safety and emergency protocols, particularly for high-risk areas such as public parks.
- Monitor operational risks and lead contingency planning.
Data & Impact Evaluation
- Design and oversee systems for tracking outcomes such as civic engagement, workforce placement, and leadership development.
- Prepare reports for funders and stakeholders that clearly communicate program impact.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in nonprofit operations or program leadership, ideally in youth-focused organizations.
- Strong financial management and budgeting skills, including experience with grant compliance.
- Proven experience managing teams and leading multi-program operations.
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
- Deep understanding of community-based work, particularly in underserved urban settings.
- Familiarity with Little Village and issues related to youth development, community safety, and mental health is a strong plus.
