Our Genesis

Back in 2016, in the baseball diamonds of Piotrowski Park, our founder, Rey Raigoza, decided to go back and coach Little League as a way to give back to the sport that gave him so much. He was given the opportunity to coach and mentor 15 kids both on and off the field

One day, Coach Rey’s team was invited to a tournament in the suburbs. As the team walked up to the sports complex, one thing was apparent: They invited us out of pure necessity due to a team dropping out. Not only were we the only Latino team in the competition but we stuck out like a sore thumb; we didn't have matching uniforms, branded backpacks and we shared 3 bats as a team. Intimidation should have kicked in for the entire team quite the contrary; we knew we belonged, we knew we needed to take up space and with that mentality we made it to the semi-finals of the tournament. Without giving it too much thought, something powerful began.

From that day forward the mission became clear; economic barriers should never impede our youth from playing the sport they love at a competitive level and through sport Build Human Capital in our communities.

Fast forward to 2022 (When we officially became a NFP) and those same words ring true for the mission of Urban Warriors. No young person should have to sacrifice playing quality sports due to economic reasons. We strongly believe that every young person deserves equal access to extracurricular activities that create the Perfect Athlete on and off the field. We are no longer just a baseball team but an organization with 5 programs (and growing) and serving over 300 young people!
